Florida Historic Site
Project type
Public space
Date
2024
Location
Florida, Uruguay
The Historic Site of the city of Florida has particularities due to its urban insertion, its location is characterized by being in front of another public space (Plaza Asamblea) and close to the Cathedral Basilica, both of strong symbolic charge.
From this analysis comes the proposal of a public space that stands out in the urban fabric and recomposes the characteristic building line of the urban environment. The project aims to respond to contemporary human needs not contemplated in other existing public spaces.
The contemporary philosopher Byung-Chul Han in his book “Contemplative Life” conveys to us the current human need to clear ourselves of the hyperactive routine and constant productive demands, which only make us perceive life in terms of performance, work, production, understanding inactivity as a great deficit. Non-action requires a contemplative pause for which there is no place today. In this sense, the project proposes to create spaces for contemplation, tranquility, meditation, non-activity, to get rid of the speed of the daily routine, and to reconnect with nature. Places to recover idleness, balance and inner human wealth.
The place is projected as a stage where a new independence can germinate.
This time a human independence from the impositions of contemporary life, stress, consumption and permanent productive activities, to feel fully human again.
The lighting and landscape design also contribute in this line, generating different atmospheres and environments. The desired effect is to stimulate the senses (different aromas, colors, sounds, textures, flavors) and to show the passage of time through the cyclical mutations of nature.
The project seeks to contribute to inclusion, satisfying the needs of all users, generating positive social impacts. It is designed based on the principles of economic, social and environmental sustainability. All routes are universally accessible.
